Around 300,000 people have lost their homes, crops, livestock and personal belongings due to severe flash floods in Yemen. Many are now being forced to shelter in mosques, schools or live out in the open, in abandoned buildings, some of which are at risk of collapsing.
Many were already struggling to survive, with little to no work opportunities and barely able to afford one meal for their families each day. Levels of desperation and despair are rising as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis falls to new depths.
UNHCR is rushing to provide vital shelter and relief to those affected, as well as to continue our lifesaving protection and cash programmes for those most vulnerable
But we cannot do it without support. Our emergency efforts are severely underfunded.
